This three page paper presents a detailed comparison between what it was like to be a female and male African American slave in America before slavery was abolished in 1865. The author uses two writings of slaves from the era to examine the life and times of slaves and their gender roles. With Narrative of the life of Frederick Douglass and "Incidents in the life of a slave girl" from Harriet Jacobs, we are taken on a revealing tour of the life of a female as well as a male slave.
