This paper will present a book review of Death of a Nation by Clifford Dowdey. By understanding Dowdey's bent on Lee's non-liability for losing this battle, we can see how he finds Longstreet and Pickett responsible for losing the battle. Lee's sense of offensive battle was superceded by his officers, and with poor intelligence, he lost the battle most important to winning the Civil War.
