Balkans. This paper discusses the Balkans. The Turks' guiding principle was to raid, war against and make life miserable to the Christians in the interest of Islam. They belonged to the Byzantine Empire, the capital of which was Constantinople, the apple of the eye of the Turks, then headed by the prophet Muhammad. But it was not until the rule of Muhammad the Conqueror that this great ghazi or conquest was carried out. In 1453, Muhammad and his troops bombed the city walls of Constantinople for months, and having been so badly damaged, it did not take the Turks a day to capture it and destroy the last bit of it.
