This brief essay examines the book Giovanni and Lusanna: Love and Marriage in Renaissance Florence. The aim of the paper is to examine the manner in which the text and its examination of an actual trial in Florence in 1455 illustrate the particulars of the class system in Florence. Ultimately, the paper argues that the court's initial decision was overturned because it threatened the established hierarchy of the class system in Florence.
