This is a report on The Great Gatsby. In The Great Gatsby it is evident that the book takes place in the 1920s based on some of the character's dress and attitude. The characters are conservative by today's standards, yet they are willing to push the envelope and test boundaries, common in the 1920s. Divorce became more acceptable in the 1920s. For example Catherine says "It's really his wife that's keeping them apart. She's a Catholic and they don't believe in divorce (Gatsby, 34).
