Women and Proportional Representation in Canadian Politics.
Proportional representation for women has been a long-debated topic in Canadian politics. Many claim that it is not necessary as it does not guarantee that women's rights and needs will be better attended to, while others following the democratic line of thought support it to give fair representation to a minority segment, that is women and their issues. This paper will look at this much-talked about topic, and will try to discuss about the need of adopting proportional representation. The discussion will draw on the experience of other countries where it is practiced, in order to ground its points better.
