Church ; State: Implications for Jonesville School District
The debate over the proper relationship between church and state, a debate as old as the Republic, has in our time taken on fresh intensity. The flashpoints range from abortion to the role of the so-called religious Right in American politics, but among the most delicate issues involved are those concerning education, in particular public support for private and parochial schools. This paper examines the debate between church and state in the Jonesville School District. This paper also looks at similar occurrences around the U.S. regarding religious practices such as prayer and the grappling of the school boards between satisfying their local communities and facing a lawsuit. 29.5 pgs. 39 f/c. 20+b.
