The Causes of the South-East-Asian Market Collapse. This paper will bring to light some of the causes of the South-East-Asian market collapse. In order to do this, it is necessary to look at the currency crisis from both a macro and micro perspective; i.e. factors that affected all of the ASEAN countries, indeed the world at large, and those which were unique to each country. As most commentators agree that the root of the macro problem laid with the world's volatile and unregulated foreign exchange markets, it will form the starting point of this study.
