Continuing education and adult learning can be aided through the use of long distance education. This type of education has been greatly facilitated through the use of networked technologies, but still is unrefined in that it specifically targets undergraduate and technical education, rather than more advanced graduate work in masters and doctorate programs. However, due to the life schedules kept by many adult students seeking to acquire their advanced degrees, remote learning provides a much- needed opportunity for educational enrichment. A review of the literature demonstrates that remote learning comprises the skills needed for advancement in education along with freedom of scheduling constraints, both significant draws for the advanced adult student. Academic institutions would do well to consider the information contained in this research paper to better focus upon the development of an advanced studies remote learning project.
