Each of the books is concerned with the philosophy of teaching and the structure of teacher education in the postindustrial age. Mattingly examines teacher professionalism in the nineteenth century and relates the issue to the present time. Usher and Edwards remind us that education is undergoing profound changes because of postmodernist thought.
