An Analysis of the Importance of Legend in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance by John Ford and 1984 by George Orwell
This paper will seek to examine the nature of legends and myth-making in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance by John Ford and 1984 by George Orwell. By seeing the relatively inept sense of truth that exists in the heroes of these tales, we can learn why they hold little salt as to true heroism. Also, we can learn why the people in the stories prefer false heroes in legend, rather than the real heroes that triumph over evil.
