Steven Spielbergs Contribution to the Film Industry
This paper will examine several aspects of Spielberg’s film style and its effect on the industry at large. First I will talk about how Spielberg repeatedly sacrifices depth and complexity for superficiality and ease of storytelling in movies like Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan. Second, I will examine the ways that Spielberg creates and builds hype for films such as in the case of Saving Private Ryan. Finally, this paper will consider the role that merchandising has in Spielberg’s work as a director and producer and how Spielberg has modified and amended the scope of his films in order to better facilitate product placement and brand identification in Jurassic Park and Amistad. The paper includes a three page outline of its content.
