This paper discusses the topic of gender and relationship in literature and drama. Because the relationships between men and women are such a large part of human existence, the theme of gender very often plays an important role in literature and drama. Seldom is this exploration of gender as cut and dry as just dealing with the "male" or "female" aspects of the characters. More important is the specific relationship between the characters in a story or play, and the influence that they have on each other over a period of time. In the subsequent pages I will examine two such relationships, focusing on the female characters in each, and investigating how each woman takes a unique approach in dealing with the opposite sex.
