This paper will, in the course of examining the changing landscape of the Caribbean island of Jamaica over time, argue that the human impact upon the landscape of the island has been so dramatic that the only natural force comparable was the earthquake of 1692. This human impact, intended to support the industries of mining, agriculture and tourism, threatens to inflict radical damage upon the island's environmental from which it may never recover. 8 pgs.
