This paper will compare and constrast The Jew in the Thornbush and The Jews Beech-Tree by Annette von Droste Hulshoff. By understanding how the court proceeding fare in both of these tales of a hanging, we can see how Jews are projected negatively by this author. By analyzing the investigation proceedings in each case, we can see how Droste-Hulshoff gives little justice to her main Jewish characters, as they must be hung by non-empirical types of evidence.
