Nothing is as devastating as knowing a loved one has cancer. Cancer devastates lives of the patient, family members, friends, and co-workers often causing them to emotional scars of depression, post-traumatic stress, anxiety disorders, psychosocial distress or other emotional problems as well as facing various treatment-related issues. The National Center for Health Statistics show that during 2001 there were 553,251 deaths from cancer (2003). There were 1,156,000 people with cancer released from the hospital in 2000 (FASTATS 2003).
