This paper examines what a nursing care plan for the parents of a child with birth defects would entail. Assessment, intervention and evaluation of outcomes in cases of birth defects usually focus on the child. Equally as important, however, is effectively addressing the psychosocial trauma and prolonged, at times intensely painful, practical and emotional adjustment of the parents to their child's special needs and nature.
