Plato and Aristotle on Democracy: Are Their Criticisms Valid
This nine-page undergraduate paper analyzes the criticisms of the ancient Greek philosophers Plato and Aristotle regarding democracies, examines how the concept of majority rule in democracies was viewed by Plato and Aristotle, and discusses whether their criticisms of democracy are warranted. The author examines the primary texts of Aristotle and Plato, and places them in their proper historical context in order to clarify what Plato Aristotle actually wrote about democracy as it was understood and practiced by the ancient Greeks.
