Modern life is governed by the clock; be to work at 9 a.m.; be to class by 5 p.m.; be in bed by midnight or be to tired to work in the morning. So why are you awake at 4 a.m. pacing the floors and wondering if more warm milk and toast will solve the problem? Why is it that you are tired until noon and sleep sitting at your desk and then suddenly you are up and ready to face the workday? Why is your closest friend up at 6 a.m. and ready to meet the day with a smile? There are many factors, which may give answers to these questions. Stress, eating habits, environment, temperature, lighting, and many other factors may account for different activity and sleep patterns, but the dominant force in determining activity and resting cycles is circadian rhythms. The body's natural biological clock, present n human and animals alike, may raise havoc in the modern time oriented world, but no human being can escape this powerful force of nature. This inability to escape nature is the primary topic of this paper.
