This paper reviews Dr. Kay Jamison's memoir of her life with bipolar disorder, "An Unquiet Mind" (1995). It contrasts the author's own opinion of the book with two different reviews, one from an online support organization for the mentally ill and their families, the other from a print journal for the study of criminal justice. The two reviews differ in how critical they are of the book, and in how they would use the book in a professional context. The paper's author agrees with some of the criticisms made by the two reviews, but also concludes that the book is a moving literary work as well as an informative psychological case study.
