The Disaster of Specialization and Professionalism.
First person argument about the problems with modern professionals. The writer believes they serve themselves and do nothing for the public. Specialization is more than a machine to get things done and more than a machine of power designation: it is an ideology and a framework of human motivation. Specialization is driven by practicality, but it is also driven by desire, power and connection. These imperatives of professionalism change with time and with the desires of the profession or leaders and the modern day profession is driven by its own set of imperatives that have not existed in the past and imperatives that will evolve over time.
